This image of President Lincoln was taken November 8th, 1863, just eleven days prior to delivering his Gettysburg Address. The photo, taken by Alexander Gardner at his studio in Washington D.C., would later serve as the model for sculptor Daniel Chester French when creating the statue for the Lincoln Memorial.

The image is on permanent display in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in Journey Two: The White House Years, The Telegraph Office, and is also the focus of the production, Lincoln's Eyes, in the Museum's Union Theater.
